Carglass: Bringing control and visibility to high-volume operations
Power BI
Carglass is a Belron brand which is a vehicle glass repair and replacement group operating worldwide across 34 countries. The Belron brands (Carglass, Autoglass, Safelite etc.) are known for their fast service, they are able to repair and replace a customer’s windscreen within 24 hours through branch-based and mobile services.
The challenge
- The EDC handles large volumes: ~ 6,000 screens per day, maintaining an average inventory of ~420,000 glass pieces + accessories across a huge warehouse area (~43,000 m²).
- There are many supply trucks each day (≈ 75 incoming trucks) and multiple “incoming” business data flows.
- Historically, reporting was static, manual, and error-prone: numerous Excel exports and merges, lots of manual “massaging” of data, which is time consuming and fragile.
- There was a need for a consistent, certified source of truth (datasets), stronger data governance, more efficient dashboards, fewer manual reports.
Our solution
- Carglass (EDC) adopted Microsoft Power BI (Desktop + Service) for modernising their front-end reporting, layering on top of their existing data warehouse.
- A process was put in place to assess the data flows and business processes; establish common data governance so that datasets are certified and consistent.
- Built dashboards for key use cases: e.g. budget & forecast dashboard, procurement & quality insights, and planned “Inventory Holding” dashboard for decision support.
- Automation of repeated Excel-based reports into Power BI dashboards, so end users can focus on core business tasks rather than on report preparation.
The business value
- Reduced manual effort & errors: automation of repetitive reporting saves time, reduces dependence on manual merging of Excel files.
- Improved decision-making through interactive, modern dashboards rather than static reports; faster access to insight for finance, procurement, quality teams.
- Stronger data governance & consistency: certified datasets ensure all reporting uses the same “single version of truth”.
- More agility: ability to build dashboards and insights faster, and to scale to new reporting needs (e.g. inventory, quality) as business needs evolve.
- Cost & efficiency gains: by moving from manual Excel-processes to managed dashboards, resources (people/time) freed up.
