ENGIE is a global leader in energy and services, driving the transition to a carbon-neutral world. Operating in over 70 countries, the company focuses on renewable energy, smart energy management, and integrated infrastructure solutions. As one of the largest producers of renewable power, ENGIE excels in solar, wind, and hydro energy, offering clients tailored solutions to reduce carbon footprints.
The challenge
At ENGIE, the shift towards a self-service, business-driven data environment brought new challenges as the amount of data models and BI requests grew.
The existing governance model required a review to address issues like the duplication of data models.
This led to:
- Inefficiencies
- increased maintenance efforts,
- loss of a guaranteed single source of truth
Solving this became essential to ensure reliable and streamlined data-driven decision-making.
Our solution
Collaborative workshops with Engie’s data squads to gain a clear understanding of the current setup & challenges.
Agile implementation using Azure DevOps.
Improved best practice usage:
- improved Layered Modelling approach
- best practice guidelines for SAP HANA Calculation Views
Implemented a Governance & Data Lineage tool using SAP ECC, SAP BW, SAP HANA and SAS metadata tables, which were modeled in SAP HANA.
Visualization: PowerBI for Data Lineage & Governance.
The business value
Clear visibility into the datasets, which lead to
- significant improvements to the governance & maintainability
- Identification of duplicate data models
Increased standardization, again improving the maintainability and TOC of their data products
Improved single source of truth datasets, serving as a catalyst for increased self service data driven decision making
